November 2020 Container Loaded and Shipped

Our third shipping container – another 40 footer – was filled and sent on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Despite pouring rain and uncertainty of our truck actually arriving, we were able to finally fill our truck – in the dark. Using headlamps, our awesome volunteers got the truck filled with birthing kits, newborn kits, medical equipment and supplies, school supplies, and school furniture in less than two hours! Fr. Vaccaro “blessed our mess” that filled the halls of CubeSmart prior to filling the truck. We are so thankful for all the help we received from our volunteers, Food for the Poor, CubeSmart, and Interstate Van Lines. Our next shipping container will be sent Spring 2021.

So thankful for our new partnership with St Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Fredericksburg,VA

This parish made 1,000 birthing kits this fall! They loved the project and said they are looking forward to doing it again. So happy to see our mission spread!

Stella Marina Newborn Kit Collection Drive Was a Huge Success

The Stella Marina team is very appreciative of the many donations made at our recent newborn kit drive on July 13 - 14.

During the build Girl Scout, Kathryn W. shared her Girl Scout Gold Award project with the more than 60 volunteers at the kit build. Kathryn is using volunteers to make reusable sanitary pads for the women in Haiti. Heartelt thanks to Kathryn and all the other volunteers who helped.

Midwife training completed on June 27th in Cap Haitian at New Hope Hospital

Midwife bags with flashlight, digital blood pressure device and Doppler ultrasound, made possible by a Nativity parishioner, were given to everyone during the training. Instruction was provided on the correct usage of each device (by video) by the Labor and Delivery nurses at Fair Oaks Hospital.

Stella Marina was recently featured in the Arlington Catholic Herald and on WDVM to discuss the Stella Marina program. Click on the images below to read the story and see the video.

Blessing of the Kits by Father Robert Cilinski

Blessings Indeed! 1,200 Birthing Kits assembled by hundreds of parishioners after Masses at Nativity on March 11, 2018, all coordinated by a most amazing group of dedicated and inspiring women.

Stella Marina's first mission trip was a huge success. Anna Forde - one of the group who traveled to Haiti with us in June - took hours of film from our trip and has turned it into a great video.  The video has lovely highlights from our trip including testimonials from several midwives and time spent with the people who live in villages built by Church of the Nativity through Food for the Poor.  Enjoy!   (Watching this video makes us eager for our next mission trip.)  Watch the video to see this amazing journey.
